Iphone - Top 5 Most Frequently Asked Apple iPhone Questions

Have you purchased one of the new Apple iPhones and absolutely love it, but you have noticed some common problems? Well here are the top 5 most frequently asked questions and problems with the Apple iPhone and their solutions.

How do I turn off the phone dial keypad noises on my Apple iPhone?

Solution: You can turn off the clicking sounds by switching the ringer button to off. If you're not sure where the ringer button is, it's located on the upper left corner of the phone above the volume buttons, to the left of the headphone jack. Once you're done with typing a message, you can switch the ringer button back to the on position.

My USB connection is not working, Itunes didn't come up and it is not charging.

Solution: Power down the computer first and reboot. If this does not work, bring up Itunes first, put the phone in the cradle and then attach via USB.

Whenever I get a text now, it does not make a noise. None of the sounds besides the ringtone work. I have tried resetting it and when I press on and off on the settings it does not make a sound either.

Solution: Check your lock switch above volume control (most common problem).

Solution: Plug in and out your headphones.

Should I fully deplete my battery to preserve the life on my Apple iPhone?

Solution: No need to fully deplete battery. If your battery is depleting in less than a day and you aren't using it heavily then you may have a faulty battery.

I seem to lose signal frequently on my Apple iPhone?

Solution: Contact the Apple store. There is no solution for you to do.

I hope these solutions have helped you or will help you if you run into problems!

Apple iPhone vs Nokia N95 - Power Performers, Power

When biggies come into competition, things become exciting and productive. It is often said that wants lead to invention and invention leads to utilisation. But when utilization becomes a show-off affair, how could one forget the phenomenon called 'competition'. Competition has played a big role in the burgeoning mobile phone industry as well. As the number of mobile phone makers is increasing day by day, competition is also on a significant high. What's the benefit? Better handsets at affordably rates! Nokia and Apple are two prime competitors in the global mobile market today. Both have displayed amazing grit to showcase their best by launching handsets like the iPhone and the N95. Let's get started with their features one by one.

IPhone Cases - Protect Your Baby From Harm

The Apple iPhone was introduced into the world, at least to the US, on June 29th 2007. Thousands of people clamored to be the first to get their hands on an iPhone and from most accounts, they are very proud of their new acquisitions. Though Apple provided the basic accessories required to use the iPhone, like most special things, it came into the world naked. So after investing $500 to $600 on an iPhone it only makes prudent sense to invest a few extra dollars in an iPhone case to protect it.

Initial product stress tests of the Apple iPhone have been quite impressive. Apple wisely switched to optical grade glass for the innovative touch screen of the iPhone and it is almost impossible to scratch it. Even with a key. This, however, doesn’t mean it should be left unprotected and the rest of the iPhone is still prone to dings and scratches.

The solution to protecting your new iPhone is actually quite simple, though all the talk about skins, cases, wallets, and screen protectors can be a little bewildering. Don’t worry, below are the options available for protecting your iPhone and the good news is that they typically cost much less than your monthly bill with AT&T.

Types of iPhone Cases:

*iPhone Skins -- a skin is just a cover that completely wraps around your iPhone with cutouts to allow you access to the touch screen, main navigation button, as well as the side buttons, charger, and camera. iPhone skins are made from silicone, which is a flexible, yet rugged type of plastic. The benefit of a skin, is that it will protect the surfaces of your iPhone from nicks and scratches and even offer some protection if dropped. However, don’t rely on a silicone skin to offer you complete protection against drops.

IPhone skins come in clear silicone as well as several popular colors ranging from feminine pink to stealth black. Some iPhone skins also come with a screen protector and neck strap, but be sure to check the product details to make certain.

*Phone Cases and Wallets -- a step up in style and convenience is an iPhone case or wallet. Many of these cases also include a belt clip so you can keep your iPhone at the ready. Unlike cell phone holsters, a case or wallet fully protects your iPhone when not in use. Cases and wallets typically come in both leather and canvas varieties and in a wide range of styles. Chose the type that best suits your usage and expresses your personal style. You may even want several cases to match different clothing and occasions!

*iPhone Screen Protectors -- an iPhone screen protector typically is a piece of very thin silicone with an adhesive backing that covers the entire front of the iPhone. Like a skin, it also has a circular cutout to expose the main navigation button at the bottom of the iPhone. A skin can then be placed over the screen protector. Not all iPhone screen protectors are created equal though. The better ones have dust resistant and anti-glare properties. Many iPhone skins and cases already come with a screen protector so you typically don’t need to purchase one separately.

An Apple iPhone is a truly innovative technology product that is a joy to own. Their owners have every right to be proud and can be forgiven, at least for now, for showing them off every chance they get. And you can tell a truly proud and worthy Apple iPhone owner by how they have chosen to dress up and protect their “baby”.

IPhone Introduced to Europe, Where Standards Differ

By ERIC PFANNER
Published: September 19, 2007

LONDON, Sept. 18 — Apple introduced the iPhone to Europe on Tuesday, hoping to entice consumers with a sleek design and the power of the Apple brand, even as it flouts some of the technological and marketing conventions of the European mobile business.

Steve Jobs was in London on Tuesday to announce that Britain would be the first European country to get Apple's iPhone.
Steven P. Jobs, the Apple chief executive, said the iPhone would become available to British consumers in November in an exclusive arrangement with O2, a mobile network operator owned by Telefónica of Spain. Similar deals are expected to be announced with the T-Mobile subsidiary of Deutsche Telekom in Germany and with the Orange unit of France Télécom.
The iPhone, which allows users to make calls, browse the Internet, check e-mail and play songs and videos by running their fingers over a touch-sensitive screen, has been a hit in the United States, where more than one million were sold in the first three months of its release.
But analysts say Apple may have a tougher time in Europe. They expressed disappointment that the iPhone to be sold in Europe was identical to the one in the United States, meaning that it would be unable to take advantage of faster European wireless networks for Web browsing and media downloads.

Mr. Jobs said Apple had decided against making the phone compatible with the faster third-generation mobile networks because the chip sets for 3G-compatible phones used up battery power too quickly. “They’re real power hogs,” he said in London, adding that it might take until late next year for the technology to advance enough to make a 3G iPhone.
Mr. Jobs said the iPhone would overcome this hurdle by relying heavily on Wi-Fi technology, which provides broadband Internet access for laptop computers and other devices, though only when they are stationary. When iPhones are on the move, they will shift to a mobile technology called Edge, which is also use by AT&T, Apple’s exclusive network partner in the United States.
But Matthew Key, chief executive of O2 in Britain, said Edge would be available in areas covering only about 30 percent of the British population when the phone is introduced in Britain on Nov. 9.

Also, 20 percent of British mobile users already have 3G-enabled phones, according to M:Metrics, a research firm. “There’s no doubt it’s going to be an obstacle for Apple,” said Paul Goode of M:Metrics. “You’re going to be asking people to downgrade in terms of capability.”
Apple is also going against the grain of the European mobile business by charging £269 ($538) for the phone in Britain, and locking customers in to 18-month contracts at monthly rates of £35 to £55 ($70 to $110). Typically, carriers discount even high-end cellphones in Europe.
“Sometimes you get what you pay for,” Mr. Jobs said.
O2 customers will also get unlimited data transfers with their iPhones, an effort to stimulate use of the mobile Internet and multimedia services.
T-Mobile planned to announce on Wednesday an exclusive agreement to sell the iPhone in Germany, according to a person briefed on the negotiations. There, the phone will sell for 399 euros ($555), this person added.
Carolyn Owen, a spokeswoman for Orange, declined to confirm reports that Apple would soon announce a similar agreement in France.
Europe has generally been a trickier place than the United States for Apple to do business. The company’s iPod music player has a roughly 20 percent market share in Europe, including 40 percent in Britain, compared with 60 percent in the United States, according to M:Metrics.
Regulators and consumer groups in several countries have also objected to some of Apple’s business practices.
This week, for instance, the European Commission plans hearings on a complaint that Apple’s iTunes online music store violates competition rules by charging Britons more than other Europeans for downloads. Apple has said its agreements with music companies and the organizations that oversee musical copyrights are to blame.
Despite Apple’s struggles in Europe, analysts say the region could still turn into a lucrative market for the iPhone.
Europeans, for instance, are more likely to opt for high-end multimedia phones than Americans. In June, according to M:Metrics, only 6 percent of cellphones sold in the United States were so-called smartphones, compared with 12 percent in Britain and 24 percent in Italy — a market where Apple has not yet indicated its iPhone plans.
Kevin J. O’Brien contributed reporting from Berlin.

Apple iPhone - It Will Change Your Life

The apple iPhone is a latest mobile phone that allows you to make a call by simply pointing your finger at a name or number in your address book, a favorites list, or a call log. It also automatically syncs all your contacts from a PC, Mac, or Internet service. And it lets you select and listen to voicemail messages in whatever order you want — just like email. With iPhone, making a call is as simple as touching a name or number. In addition, you can easily construct a favorites list for your most frequently made calls, and quickly merge calls together to create conference calls.
It is unique phone with slim profile and no keys - it has 3.5 inches touch display that uses multy-touch technology for navigation. A sensor controls the orientation of the display, and MAC OS X controls the smart phone’s functionality. It is quad-band GSM/EDGE device with WiFi and Bluetooth, and features 8GB of memory.
Visual Voicemail allows you to go directly to any of your messages without listening to the prior messages. So you can quickly select the messages that are most important to you. IPhone includes an SMS application with a predictive QWERTY soft keyboard that prevents and corrects mistakes, making it easier and more efficient to use than the small plastic keyboards on many smart phones. The iPhone features a 2-megapixel camera and a photo management application that goes far beyond anything on a phone today. Sync photos from your PC or Mac, and you’re ready to browse or email them with the flick of a finger. With iPhone, making a call is as simple as touching a name or number. Handheld and mobile digital electronic devices for the sending and receiving of telephone calls, faxes, electronic mail, and other digital data; MP3 and other digital format audio players; handheld computers, personal digital assistants, electronic organizers, electronic notepads. And there are a number of nice touches as well, including a motion sensor that rotates photos when you turn the phone, and voicemails displayed visually that you can click on and listen to. Apple Cuts iPhone Price Ahead of Holidays

Apple unexpectedly cut the price of its iPhone Wednesday, claiming that it was seeking to broaden the market for the popular but expensive phone for the Christmas season.

A new iPod model has touch-screen controls and built-in Wi-Fi.
Apple also introduced a new digital music player modeled after its iPhone and struck a wireless music distribution deal with the Starbucks coffee chain. Apple, which rarely drops the prices on its products, cut the price of its 8-gigabyte iPhone by $200, to $399.

Steven P. Jobs, the chief executive, said in an interview after the announcement that Apple would have been able to hit its publicly declared target of a million iPhones sold in the United States by the end of this month, even without a price cut.

“We’re a high-volume manufacturer, and we’re pretty good at getting costs down,” Mr. Jobs said. “It’s very clear we have a breakthrough product on our hands, but it’s also clear that many can afford it, some can’t. We’d like to make it affordable to even more folks going into this holiday season.”

Investors appeared to interpret the announcement negatively. Apple’s stock fell more than 5 percent, closing at $136.76, and most of the loss came during and after Mr. Jobs’s presentation Wednesday morning.

“My suspicion is that they got to 750,000 really quickly, and then it started to slow down,” said Van Baker, an industry analyst at Gartner Group.

The iPhone was first sold on June 29. A number of recent analysts’ reports have noted that it is selling well and is, indeed, outselling its smartphone competitors. But Mr. Jobs said that if the company had waited past the Christmas buying season to reduce prices it would have been forced to delay for another year reaching a broader consumer market. “We’re feeling like being more aggressive,” he said.

Chetan Sharma, a telecommunications industry analyst based in Issaquah, Wash., said, “They’re trying to get the next demographic to bite into it.” Another breakthrough Apple product, the original Macintosh, initially sold briskly in 1984 and then stalled abruptly. The Macintosh market did not regain its luster until 1986 with the introduction of the Macintosh II. Apple’s market share among computer makers remains small, in part because of the premium price it places on its Macs. (Apple’s market share in music players has not suffered a similar fate, however.)

On Wednesday, Apple executives insisted that the price cut had been planned long ago and that the strategy had been conceived in part to keep the iPhone’s pricing in line with its new iPod Touch, a music player that looks like the iPhone but lacks the phone-calling ability. The sharp price cut, however, suggested that even Apple, which has long lived in a pricing bubble insulated from other personal computer makers, is not immune from the brutal pressures of the cellular phone business.

Mr. Jobs said the company was making a “total refresh” of the iPod line, and he demonstrated a series of new features that showed how Apple was turning the music player into a hand-held computer.

Mr. Jobs displayed the new flagship iPod Touch, which will sell for $299 for an 8-gigabyte model and $399 for one with twice the capacity. Slightly thinner than an iPhone, the new device has touch-screen controls and a built-in Wi-Fi antenna that allows it to connect directly to the Internet. It also has a browser, which makes it more of a hand-held computer than any other music player.

Users will be able to connect to a new iTunes Wi-Fi store where they can download songs directly to their music players without having to connect to a computer.
Another feature of the iPod software will be the ability to alert a user entering a Starbucks coffee shop to the music being played there. Then, a tap on the screen will download the song from iTunes.

Howard Schultz, Starbucks’s chairman, said Starbucks stores in the United States are being equipped to manage this process. He said that stores in Seattle and New York City would have the ability by Oct. 2 and that other stores across the country would get the service over the next two years.
In other announcements, Apple introduced a new iPod Nano, chunkier than before, but with a bigger screen for viewing video. Mr. Jobs said he still hoped that Apple could salvage its relationship with NBC, which had said it would not sell its programs on iTunes. The two companies could not resolve differences over pricing.

“The other networks are thrilled,” Mr. Jobs said, “because we actually promoted NBC shows a lot last year and we were getting ready to promote them this year for the new season. Unfortunately that’s not going to happen. I think its a loss for both us and NBC, and I hope it gets put back together. But I don’t think that selling TV shows for a lot more than we are makes any sense. You can watch them for free on TV.”

iPhone- Setting Up Your Voice Mail on iPhone

Have you just bought a new iPhone and are having a hard time getting the voice mail set up? You may have spent hours on the phone with customer service and gotten nowhere. Here, you will find the help you need to get your voice mail set up easily.

The first thing is not to put the SIM card from your old phone into your iPhone. Everything else will work but you voice mail and visual mail will likely not work. If you go to an AT&T store, you can get a new SIM put in your phone and help with getting everything from your old SIM card transferred to it.

Now you are ready for the next step. Call customer service at AT&T (the exclusive iPhone service provider in the US) and tell the representative that you need to setup voice mail. Be sure to tell him or her to check to make sure the forwarding feature to forward calls to your voice mail is turned on. This is something that is often overlooked by customer service representatives. Once this is done, you are ready to actually setup voice mail.

Before you begin, it is a good idea to know what password you want to use. Might write down what you want to record as your outgoing message, too. Doing this will save time and make the process to setup voice mail go smoother.Your password should be between 6 and 15 characters. Make sure it is something you can remember but others will find impossible to guess. Now you tap the voice mail icon on your iPhone. You will be asked to create a password at this point.

Bmw Gets Iphone

What’s the next best thing to owning a BMW X5 equipped with the latest and greatest BMW X5 parts?

How about getting Apple’s new iPhone to work with it?

Apparently the newest and currently the hippest gadget around is compatible with BMWs that are compatible with other Apple iPods. The iPhone, in addition should work on Bluetooth-equipped BMWs. This isn’t much of a surprise since BMW is known to be among the leaders in automakers in making Bluetooth devices work in cars.

On June 29 BMW became the first automaker to announce a fully integrated system for Apple's brand-new iPhone.

Initially, the German automaker will only offer integration for U.S. models, but with international sales of the iPhone a given, BMW is likely to extend the technology across to other markets.

In statement made in its website, bmwusa.com, BMW said, “BMW welcomes the Apple iPhone -- It's the kind of innovative approach you would expect from BMW. In 2004, BMW was the first to integrate the iPod into BMW vehicles and have customers take full control of their music on the road. So it seemed only logical that BMW be among the first to ensure iPhone owners have the same ability to enjoy their music, plus the added benefits of Bluetooth® hands-free calling across our model line. We are pleased to announce that BMW owners can use their iPhone in this way from day one. … Access to the iPod (or the iPod application of the iPhone) via the vehicle controls and central information or radio display is only possible on cars equipped with iPod/USB interface. The iPod/USB interface is available on 3 and 5 Series with 03/07 production, the X5 with 04/07 production and the 6 Series with 09/07 production date. Further details will be available shortly. In the meantime please contact BMW of North America’s Customer Relations Department at 1-800-831-1117 for further details.

“… The iPhone functions with BMW vehicles equipped with BMW Assist with Bluetooth® handsfree-calling as of the date of testing and meets or exceeds minimum standards established by BMW of North America ("BMW"). This is not a warranty for phone performance or functionality. BMW makes no guarantees or warranties as to the performance of any phone while connected to your BMW via Bluetooth® Wireless Technology. Furthermore, software releases by BMW, the phone supplier or the wireless carrier dated after testing might alter compatibility results.”

How To Make Your iPhone Battery Last Longer

The Apple iPhone uses a standard, rechargeable lithium-ion battery. It is critical that you take care of the battery in the best way possible because the battery isn't removable. Since an expert would have to replace the battery for you, it will likely cost at least $100+ to have it replaced.

If you take care of the battery of the iPhone, you will really be able to extend its life. The type of battery that's in the model can easily be used for a few years with the proper care and precautions. This doesn't mean that the battery will last forever, it just means that it will last for a lot longer.

You must avoid heat like the plague if you want this type of battery to last. Heat destroys the ability of lithium-ion batteries to store energy due to intense ionization. Make sure that your phone isn't left out in the sun. A few hours in direct sunlight will cause the battery to get excessively hot. Even one afternoon in the sun could severely damage the life of your iPhone's battery. Leaving the iPhone in your car will get the phone even hotter.

You must also make sure to never charge the iPhone with an after market charger. Not only will this void your iPhone's warranty, it will also likely damage your battery. Lithium-ion batteries are designed to be charged at an exact charge rate and voltage. Many after market chargers won't have the voltage quite right which can result in long-term degradation of your battery.

Don't charge your iPhone in your vehicle. Vehicle chargers are made to charge the battery more quickly, and this isn't good for your battery. Even the Apple brand vehicle charger isn't as good for your battery as a wall charger would be. If you get into a pinch, it probably won't kill you to charge the iPhone once or twice on the way to work. Make it a habit, and you'll wish you hadn't.

An off-brand vehicle charger is a certain recipe for disaster. Not only will the voltage be off, it will charge the battery at the wrong charge rate. This is by far the easiest way to render your battery worthless in a short period of time. If that's your goal, make sure to buy an off-brand vehicle charger right away!

If you do need to have your iPhone battery replaced, make sure to contact Apple to find an authorized repair station. If anyone that isn't authorized opens up your iPhone, your warranty will be voided. An authorized repairman can replace your battery in about 20 minutes and you will be able to have the model under continued warranty.

iPhone - How To Set Up Your Voice Mail on the iPhone

Doing this will save time and make the process to setup voice mail go smoother.

Your password should be between 6 and 15 characters. Make sure it is something you can remember but others will find impossible to guess. Now you tap the voice mail icon on your iPhone. You will be asked to create a password at this point. Enter the password you have created and then you will be asked to record a greeting. You will have the option of using a default iPhone voice mail greeting that will include your phone number or you can record your own. You can change your greeting at any time by tapping voice mail, greeting, custom and then record. Do not forget to save your greeting once you are satisfied with it.

Students at Penn state who subscribe to Penn iPhone can log in to My iPhone and setup voice mail for their iPhones. PennKey authentication will be required. Once on the home page, look for Features and Voice Mail and go to that page. Here, you will put in the password you have created. You can change this password at any time by logging in on My iPhone or through the voice mail icon on your phone. After you have entered your password, re-enter it is the field, Confirm Password. After up press the submit button, your account will be updated to include it.

To record your greeting, press the 'messages' button, it will be to the right of the keypad. Press '0' to bring up the mailbox options. Looking for iPhone Music - Get Them for Free

The amazing iPhone is not only a handphone, but also a music player itself. Since the release of it, there has been a massive demand for music files. To meet these demands many iPhone music download sites have sprung up over the internet over the past few months. But are all these music sites legitimate?

Dangerous to download
After scouring the internet for iPhone music over the past few weeks, we have discovered that it is unsafe to download music files from many iPhone download websites. Most of these websites do not respect copyright laws and are publishing illegal iPhone music media for download. Some of these files also contained spyware and adware once they were downloaded onto our computers. It is not worth it to download these free iPhone music files from these illegal websites, as you would be both offending the law and also endangering your computer system.

Legal iPhone membership sites
Fortunately, there are several iPhone music download sites that respect copyright laws on the internet and allow you to download your music files legally. These high quality iPhone download sites also ensure that the music files you get are free of spyware and adware. They will scan all the media files before allowing anyone to download them. It is therefore advisable to only download iPhone music or any other types of media files from such download sites and not from any other unreliable sources on the web.

The only "drawback" of these high quality iPhone websites is that you do have to pay a one time membership fee in order to download their media files. Luckily, they do not charge a fee per download, thus making it very affordable for us. By paying the one time fee, you will get to download as many media files as you want (no download limits), and you will never have to pay another cent again. Besides iPhone music files, these iPhone membership sites also allow you to download other media files like games, movies and TV shows, all for no additional cost!

Joining a paid iPhone membership site is certainly worth it, considering the quality control over the files you get, and the legal security you’ll have.

Did you find this information useful? The author has identified the best iPhone download sites on the internet. He runs a website at http://www.review-best.com/iphone/iphonedownloads.htm where he exposes the iPhone download scams and identifies the 4 best iPhone membership websites on the web.

iPhone Tips and Tricks - Get the Most Out of Your iPhone Experience

All of us folks who are lucky enough to already have an iPhone know how much fun they can be just to play around with. Playing with my iPhone a lot myself, I have discovered some cool tips and tricks that you may find useful.

1. If you tap once at the very top of the screen when you are on the internet, it will take you back to the top of the window rather than having to scroll all the way back up. A nice time saving feature.

2. If you set the font to the smallest size, you can read more in the internet window. An advantage of this is that when you want to click a link, you can pinch (expand) that area and the link will come up very large, making it much easier to click.

3. Rather than posting the full address of internet sites in bookmarks, you can post the equivalent RSS address instead into Apple's RSS reader and save that as your bookmark. This way you can quickly see if there's anything interesting on your favorite site rather than downloading the whole homepage.

4. If you are writing something and the iPhone flags a word as misspelled that you know is not misspelled, cancel the correction 3 times and the word will be put into the dictionary. If you write a lot, this feature is quite useful!

5. The magnifying glass is a nice iPhone tool when you are typing an email or any other text. If you tap once and hold, a magnifying glass will pop up showing you a zoomed in view of your words and cursor. You can now easily place the cursor wherever you want. This makes editing your writing very easy.

6. You can move icons around, but not on the home screen. You have to go to the ipod section. Go to iPod > More > Edit. Now you can drag your icons all around. This can also be done in the phone section.

7. To reset your iphone, hold down the right button and the "home" front button for about 6 seconds. To power it back on, push the top button. This is different than a regular shutdown, which can be done easily by holding the sleep/wake button for 6 seconds.

8. If you get a lot of spam e-mail or other unwanted e-mail, pay attention to this time saving feature. Add a link to Yahoo mail in Safari bookmarks. From there you can check 'delete all' to remove all unwanted e-mails. This is much easier than deleting hundreds of spam e-mails one at a time.

If you want to be able to download all sorts of music and movies for your iPhone, check out my other article about iPhone Download Sites.

I hope you found these iphone tips helpful. If you have an iPhone and have been wondering how best to fill it up with music and movies, check out Top iPhone Downloads for the latest reviews of iPhone download sites.

Apple iPhone Users Get Busy Signal Buzz

If the new Apple iPhone exceeds expectations in any one category it is getting the hackers off the couch to figure out the electronic key needed to unlock the new phone. When Apple unleashed its newest and unparalleled Apple iPhone device, it was designed to work only with AT&T with the SIM chip included, but locked so the only way the phone will work is with a two-year contract with AT&T the carrier formerly known as Cingular.

While several people seem to love the Apple iPhone and have many nice things to say about it music and video player, being forced to sign with a specific wireless carrier for cell phone and internet browser use has several hackers locked in their rooms searching for the door to another service. Despite AT&T's threat to prosecute anyone who unlocks the secret to their technology and is able to unlock the phone, the effort continues. Experts predict that within two weeks of the release the Apple iPhone will have been unlocked and being used on other networks.

Currently, the Apple iPhone is somewhat restricted to the United States for no other reason than economics. An average two-year contract with AT&T for over 4,000 minutes of use and unlimited wireless internet access will go for about $60 a month. For the neighbors up north, there is only one Canadian cell phone service compatible with AT&T and, due to less competition, a lesser level of service is going for about $200 a month. Add to that the $600 price tag for an Apple iPhone and this one-of-a-kind device is out of reach for most Canadian users.

The Apple iPhone was unleashed with great fanfare but initial silence by Apple about the coming technology seemed to fuel the hype behind the phone. The concept is a simple one: having every communications device known to man all in one handheld unit. Touch screen technology has been around for years, but having it installed on a device that fits into the back pocket of even the tightest pair of jeans made it one of the hottest, must-have commodities that people just had to have, despite the price and questionable service contract.

There are plenty of pitfalls with the new Apple iPhone, but none of them pose a permanent problem as the solutions will be easy to come up with, if they are'nt already in place, such as the digital camera also working as a video recorder. Easy fixes will be coming for being able to add ringtone the user chooses and will most likely add a better search tool for its address book. These are just a few of the complaints by the first users of the new Apple iPhone that should be easy to overcome.

Users Pushing For Additional Memories

Despite having the capability to play music and movies, as well as roam the internet and send and receive email and offers the functionality of a computer, the eight megabytes of memory has many people forgetting why they wanted it so bad in the first place. There is no place on the Apple iPhone for an additional memory card and its configuration with Windows and PC users is questionable at best. Of the Windows Office Suite, only Outlook is fully connectable with the Apple iPhone calendar. Outlook Express will not work, having some finding the need for the additional expenses of new software.

The battery, not replaceable by the user is another quirk of the Apple iPhone, similar to it music player, and has to go back to the factory for a new battery. Although the battery life has been greatly extended, up to nine hours with movie watching, music listening and browser viewing. A charging dock for the internal battery, which is included, promises to restore the battery from a 10 percent level to 90 percent in under two hours.

The Apple iPhone Supports Web 2.0

The Apple iPhone is not just a music player which also acts as a cellular phone; it is also fully loaded to support Third Party Web 2.0 applications.

What is Web 2.0 applications?
Web 2.0 applications allows users to experience greater interactivty and more importantly, it empowers product owners and merchants, the ability to carry out secure data access and transactions online. This is similar to the stock purchases and bank funds transfers which many of us are familiar with and it is also used for online purchases from sites like Amazon.

This breakthrough in technology allows the iPhone to be on the fore front in the digital age. Imagine this, you have just used the iPhone's built-in 2 megapixel camera to take photos of your family vacation. You uploaded the pictures onto a web-based photo sharing website like Flickr and you send a text or email broadcast to your friends. They would then visit your site and leave live interactive comments, similar to services found on Twitter. In addition, you could even add links to real-time print-on-demand photography services, and your friends can request for these photos to be printed and sent to them the next day.

The real breakthrough comes when you found out that you are able to pay for your purchases with iPhone. Imagine being able to travel without your wallet while making payment at a parking meter, buying cinema tickets and paying for a meal with just a single touch of a payment button on your iPhone.

Other exciting innovations
With the iPhone's technology architecture, it also means that developers can create innovative applications for the device. For example you could very well operate the functions of your home with your trustworthy iPhone. Imagine being able to turn your sprinklers and your sprinklers on and off, turn on the air conditioning of your room before you return home and being to record your favorite movies on television with just an instruction sent to your home automation network through your phone. Of course, when you are away on vacation, your iPhone will provide real-time video access to your home's security system, giving you the ability to see that your home is safe and sound, even when you might be hundreds of miles away.

While the iPhone will initially be available only in the USA on June 29 2007, it will also be available in Europe by the end of 2007 and in Asia the following year. The iPhone marks Apple's first entry into the cellphone market and judging by the responses seen so far, it certainly looks set to make a big splash.

How The Iphone Will Change Movie And TV Viewing Forever

Unless you've been living in a cave, under a rock, or on the Dark Side of the Moon you know that on Friday June 29th Apple's new iPhone finally hit store shelves. Thousands of Apple and mobile phone fans waited in hundreds of lines for hours just for the privledge of dropping $499-$599 on the shiny new mobile phone/internet device/widescreen iPod. Analysts and tech geeks hailed the iPhone's arrival as a momentus event in the cell phone industry. I'm here to tell you that history will show the iPhone's release as one of the single biggest events in the history of independent filmmaking.

What, exactly, does the iPhone--a mobile phone/internet device/widescren iPod--have to do with indie filmmaking? Well, a lot. The movie download market must prepare for a great new phase as we look forward to more and more great devices capable of playing our content.

For independent content to survive and thrive, it must move to new delivery devices like Apple TV, iPod and now the iPhone. Support for these new devices will lead to growth in the audience for indie content. Many "mainstream" consumers will not view indie films at screenings, festivals or DVD. The films are too hard to find, often barried in video rental store shelves or playing in small art house theaters. This has been the case for the past few decades. Once every five years there is a breakout hit--a Clerks or Blair Witch--that gives the indie community something to rally around. The independent movie press declare, "We've arrived. This is the 'Year of the Indie'". Just as quickly as these hits arise, the excitement dies down and the great content made in the aftermath gets lost in the shuffle.

Now, for what may truely be the first time, consumers will have in their hands a great portable media device. You may argue that the iPod with video or the PSP have existed for a few years. But, these are devices that most people do not *have* to carry at all times. These are "luxury" devices that we carry when we want to. Cell phones are vastly different. Most Americans now carry their cell phone at all times--to the gym, on the bus, walking through the mall, at the ball game. We always have our phones with us. Now that Apple has delivered "the best iPod ever built" (Apple's words) and snuck it inside a phone, we now have a captive audience that will always have viewing capability.

This is, or has the potential to be, huge. Just look no farther than the iPhone's home screen. Right there on that gorgious 3.5" screen is a direct link to everyone's favorite dancing-cats-meet-dancing-teenagers clip sharing site, YouTube. Think about that. Apple put YouTube directly on the home screen of their revolutionary new device. Now, this could be entirely motivated by a new advertisting or search revenue deal Apple has struck with Google. But even if it is, the fact that YouTube is on the home screen of the iPhone can not be ignored.
Apple believes in mobile entertainment. They created the iPod so that we all could enjoy all our music at any time or place. Now, we are closer than ever to that dream for video. The iPhone's 3.5" screen has a resolution higher than many computer monitors. It displays MPEG4 H.264 video beautifully--better than any portable device ever has. These quality features combined with the simple fact that people will actually have the device with them, lead to great market opportunities.

Of course, the iPhone is, for now, a niche device. It's high price tag mean that it won't be found in the hands of many teens or college students in the near future. But just as with all technology, the price will drop over time. The iPhone will also force other handset makers and cell providers to design better devices. Devices that compete with the iPhone. When this happens, consumers win.

HungryFlix.com is ready to help independent producers, filmmakers and musicians in this new distribution world. We believe that this new class of mobile devices will open the doors to great indie content. It is time to get onboard. There are hundreds of thousands of movie and music fans out there with new devices that are hungry for great content.

Cool Video Games For Your iPhone

The Apple iPhone comes with a lot of cool stuff, but one thing that is noticeably missing from the feature set is a mobile game. Just about every cell phone hitting the market these days comes with some sort of Java-based video game, whether it be Snake, Bejeweled, or a trial version of Urban Asphalt. But not the iPhone. It's got nothing in that department.

If you're itching to get your video game fix on the iPhone, you can finally scratch that itch because a handful of websites have come to your rescue. None of them, as far as I can tell, actually install any games on the iPhone, but they grant you access to some basic web-based titles via the Safari web browser. Unfortunately, because the iPhone's Safari does not support Flash or full Java, you're stuck with some really basic Javascript-based games.

Check them out at iGiki, fun4iPhone, and MacMost. Naturally, these games can also be played on any Internet-connected computer (or Pocket PC).

Just How Productive Can You Be With An iPhone? A Day In The Life Of A Former CrackBerry Addict

Eric Zeman
http://www.informationweek.com/blog/main/archives/2007/07/just_how_produc_1.html

This is the second half of my one-day miniseries on whether or not the iPhone leads to business productivity compared to a BlackBerry. Here is my take on how the iPhone does with the Internet versus the BlackBerry Pearl. Is it a waste of time, or a time saver?

As with everything, that depends a lot what sort of work you are doing. Most of what I do with the Internet during the day is reading, scanning RSS feeds and basically making sure my eyeballs see all the news that's occurring out in the world. Google plays a big role in that, and the ability to perform searches is key.

First off, the Pearl and the iPhone I used both ran on the same network, which is to say AT&T's EDGE network. I can't say that either is super speedy for browsing. In fact, WAP sites on the Pearl often took as long to load as some full Web sites do in Safari. The little speed boost that AT&T gave its network on June 28th certainly improved browsing speeds for both devices. Here's the actual breakdown.

BlackBerry:

The browser is mediocre at best. It may be easy to launch from the BlackBerry home screen, but the controls are clunky if you ask me. The menus are not intuitive, and even with the QWERTY keyboard, pecking in URLs can be a pain in the neck, er, thumbs. I have found the best way to browse the mobile web it to create as many bookmarks as possible, which cuts down on the amount of actual typing you have to do. This is definitely effective for the Pearl, though accessing bookmarks takes a few steps.

Browsing speeds aside, though, most sites work well enough even if they don't look all that great. For sites that don't have WAP versions, the browser would attempt to recreate the entire page. With such a small screen, it led to a lot of scrolling around to see the content you wanted or needed. Navigating sites such as Craig's List were downright painful. The site that matters most to me, Google, loaded just fine and produced the results I needed it to, especially related to search.

But there are many sites that are simply not friendly to mobile devices. The bus company I use, for example, does not have a mobile site, and the regular site was completely unusable on the Pearl. This meant I couldn't check the bus schedule that I needed to find out when I could catch a ride home. I had to call the bus company instead, and they aren't that friendly to phone requests about bus schedules.

If you have a lot of forms-based Internet usage to do, it all depends on whether or not the forms are formatting for WAP browsers or full browsers. It can really be a mixed bag.

As a bare bones means of accessing the Web and certain information, the Pearl gets the job done adequately. There are definitely better browsers on mobile phones.

iPhone:

The iPhone is far and above superior at the Internet. I fully admit to eating some crow here, but the Internet experience is not that bad over the EDGE network. It compares to using the Pearl in terms of speed, but you get a much richer Internet. Bookmarks are simple to set up and use in the Safari browser. And you get the full version of Web pages. That makes a big difference.

Using the Safari browser, I was able to access and use my bus company's Web page and get the schedules I needed with out any problems. If you use the browser to sign into Gmail, you have access to some of the other Google services. I was able to get into Google Apps, for example, and see all my documents. I could open all of them, and perform searches with in the Apps environment, but once inside a document, you can't interact with it beyond reading what's in it. You can't enter text or compose new documents or make edits to documents. I was able to "share" documents with other users, though, which is helpful. I couldn't do any of that on the Pearl. Since I am a heavy user of Google services, ths works out really well and actually enhances my productivity quite a bit. But it would be better of I could edit the documents, even in a minor way. Other Google services, such as Blogger, didn't work.

For the one Web site I write for most, being able to see and access all of its features is a Godsend. On the Pearl, I could only reach the WAP version of the site. Now I can see all of it, and navigate and interact with the entire site from the iPhone. I can even pen posts from the iPhone. That also is a big productivity enhancer for me.

The large screen on the iPhone also goes a long way to making the experience a better one. Also being able to use the touch functionalities of the device itself to scroll around, and zoom in and out make navigating inside large Web sites far easier.

Conclusion:

The iPhone outstrips the Pearl's browser big time. It's not even a fair comparison, really. The iPhone is so much richer and more fully realized, that it makes me never want to browse WAP sites again. Having access to the full version of the Internet (albeit, without Flash and other animations) in a device so small really is useful beyond words. The speeds aren't as fast as some I've seen on EV-DO equipped smartphones, but both devices are handicapped similarly here.

If your work requires access to the (mostly) full version of the Internet, the iPhone works better than the Pearl.

For me, the end result between email and Internet is a tie. The cons of the poor email capability are negated by the amazing Internet abilities.

Does that mean I am going to keep the iPhone? I dunno yet. I have until Friday to make up my mind...
